The story

Baklava is built from dozens of sheets of thin dough brushed with butter, filled with pistachios or walnuts, baked and then soaked in syrup. It is the sweet of celebrations, from bayram visits to weddings.

Gaziantep, in the southeast, is famous for pistachio baklava and is home to many of the country's best known makers. The dessert is shared across the wider region, with each country claiming its own version.
