The story
Çalış Plajı lies about 5 km north of Fethiye town centre and serves as Fethiye's beach, since the town itself has none. A long promenade runs along the shore beside Barış Manço Bulvarı, lined with hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. Across the water sits Şövalye Adası, the island at the mouth of Fethiye's harbour, and the sun sets over the bay in the evening.
Buses and dolmuş minibuses run from town, and small dolmuş boats come by sea. The beach suits windsurfing, and the area behind it holds about 7,500 of Fethiye's tourist beds.
Çalış is also one of the important nesting beaches of the loggerhead turtle, Caretta caretta, and takes in the Çalış nature park and bird sanctuary, where 219 bird species have been recorded.
