The story
Çeşme lies at the tip of the peninsula west of İzmir, facing the Greek island of Chios across a narrow strait. Its Ottoman castle, built in the early 1500s, overlooks the harbour.
The name means fountain, and the town is known for hot springs that rise even on the beach at Ilıca. Sandy beaches and summer nightlife make it a favourite escape for İzmir.
