The story
Faralya, officially Uzunyurt, is a neighbourhood of Fethiye about 25 km from the town and 10 km from Ölüdeniz. It sits on the heights above the canyon of Kelebekler Vadisi, the Butterfly Valley, named for the many butterfly species found there.
The stream that falls about 50 metres into the valley rises in Faralya, and a steep path leads down from the village to the beach; parts of it need ropes, so it is walked with a guide. Remains of a Lycian settlement called Perdicia lie just above the canyon, and terraced gardens on the slopes keep up a way of farming that has lasted for centuries.
Faralya is also a stage on the Lycian Way, the long walking trail along the coast, between Ovacık and Kabak.
