The story
Gökova Körfezi, also called Kerme Körfezi, is a narrow gulf about 100 km long between the Bodrum and Datça peninsulas, with the Greek island of Kos at its mouth. Its shores belong, going clockwise, to Bodrum, Milas, Muğla, Ula, Marmaris and Datça. The ancient name, Ceramicus Sinus, came from the city of Ceramus on its northern shore.
The gulf is a sunken rift valley filled by the sea. Its southern shore is especially indented, with half-moon coves that make sheltered anchorages for yachts. Red pine covers much of the land around it.
At its eastern end lies the flat plain also called Gökova, where Akyaka stands. Sedir Adası, with its Cleopatra beach, lies inside the gulf.
