The story
Göltürkbükü is the joint name of two neighbouring bays on the north side of the Bodrum peninsula, Gölköy and Türkbükü. The two villages joined in 1996 as one small town under that name, became a neighbourhood in 2012 and were split into separate neighbourhoods again in 2018. The land east and south of Gölköy is the only forested part of the peninsula.
Türkbükü has no wide sandy beach. Instead a curved boardwalk runs round its sheltered harbour, lined with shops, restaurants, bars and wooden decks for sunbathing by day and dining at night. The calm water is good for swimming in the morning, before the afternoon breeze comes in.
In high season it draws Turkish pop stars, models and athletes, which has earned Türkbükü the popular label 'the Saint-Tropez of Turkey'.
