The story
Hisarönü sits among pine forest on the Fethiye–Ovacık road, about 4 km from Ölüdeniz, and is part of the Ölüdeniz neighbourhood of Fethiye. In 1990 it was a very basic village. The road through it to Kayaköy was first paved in 1992, and together with neighbouring Ovacık it has since grown into a large resort.
It was first meant to give beds to nearby Ölüdeniz, where new building is restricted, but became a holiday place in its own right, popular with British visitors in particular. Hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping and entertainment fill it, and it is also a starting point for walkers on the Lycian Way.
