The story
He followed Atatürk as president. His career forms part of the history of the Republic’s political institutions.
A general in the War of Independence, İnönü took his surname from the two battles fought at İnönü in 1921. He kept Türkiye out of the Second World War and presided over the move to multi-party elections in 1946.
