The story
The Bosphorus is a winding strait of about thirty kilometres joining the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. It runs through the middle of İstanbul, so the city sits on two continents and its people cross by ferry every day.
Wooden waterside mansions called yalı, Ottoman palaces and fortresses line its shores. Three bridges and the Marmaray rail tunnel cross it, and the ferries and their tea sellers are part of city life.
