The story

The World Heritage property was inscribed in 1985. The designation covers specific historic areas, not the whole modern metropolis.

The property gathers four zones on the historic peninsula: the archaeological park around Sultanahmet with Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, the Süleymaniye quarter, the Zeyrek quarter around the former Pantokrator church, and the Theodosian land walls.
