The story
İzmir, the ancient Smyrna, is the third largest city in the country and the great port of the Aegean. Its waterfront promenade, the Kordon, fills with walkers and cyclists every evening.
The Ottoman clock tower of 1901 in Konak Square is its symbol. The city is known for its relaxed, outward-looking character, its Kemeraltı bazaar, its boyoz and gevrek breakfasts, and the İzmir International Fair, the country's oldest.
