The story
Kelebekler Vadisi, Butterfly Valley, opens onto a small bay near Ölüdeniz, at the foot of Babadağ. Its rock walls rise about 350 metres, and a stream running from a spring at Faralya crosses the valley to the sea, falling over a waterfall on the way.
The valley takes its name from its butterflies, more than 80 species, and especially the Jersey tiger, kaplan kelebeği. They are easiest to see between June and September.
It was declared a first-degree natural site on 8 February 1995, and building of any kind is banned. Most visitors arrive by boat from Ölüdeniz; a steep path also comes down from Faralya, but it is best walked with a guide.
