The story

Künefe is made from kadayıf, threads of shredded pastry, layered around unsalted cheese, baked in a round tray until crisp and golden, then drenched in syrup and topped with crushed pistachio. It is eaten hot, while the cheese still stretches.

It belongs above all to Hatay and its city Antakya in the south, though it is served in dessert shops everywhere.
