The story

Milas yağlı zeytini is a table olive made from the Memecik variety, grown without irrigation on the calcareous, mountainous land of the Milas district. The medium-sized black to purple olives are split lengthwise, fermented in brine and then preserved with Memecik olive oil and slices of fresh lemon, which gives them a fruity, slightly bitter taste.

It became a registered designation of origin in Türkiye on 28 August 2019, number 446, at the request of the Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 2023 the European Union recognised it as a protected designation of origin, and with Milas Zeytinyağı, registered in 2020, Milas became the first district in Türkiye with two products registered by the EU.
