The story
Nâzım Hikmet broke with the old metres and wrote poetry in a free, spoken voice about ordinary people, love and hope. Human Landscapes from My Country, written in prison, is his largest work.
His politics cost him years in prison and, from 1951, exile; he died in Moscow. His poems are now taught in Turkish schools and set to music by singers across the country.
