The story
Ortakent Yahşi is a neighbourhood of Bodrum made from two villages, Ortakent and Yahşi, which joined as one small town (belde) in 1996 and became a neighbourhood in 2012. Ortakent's old name was Müskebi, said locally as Müsgebi.
Its best-known building is the Mustafa Paşa Kulesi, a stone tower house from the Ottoman 17th century, of the kind built for local notables (ayan). The Ortakent cemetery keeps Ottoman gravestones from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
Ortakent also has a place in local music: one account names an Ortakent violinist, Köroğlu Hasan Hüseyin Salım, as the oldest known source of the folk song Çökertme.
