The story

Pamukkale, "cotton castle", is a hillside of white limestone terraces built up over thousands of years by mineral-rich hot springs. Visitors walk barefoot through the shallow blue pools.

The Romans built the spa city of Hierapolis on top, with a theatre and a large necropolis. UNESCO inscribed Hierapolis-Pamukkale in 1988.
