The story
Ramazan Bayramı, also called Şeker Bayramı, the sugar festival, begins the morning after the last day of fasting. Families dress in new clothes, visit elders, kiss their hands and are offered candy, baklava and coffee.
Children go from door to door collecting sweets and a little pocket money, the bayram harçlığı. The date follows the lunar calendar and moves about eleven days earlier each year.
