The story
Selimiye lies on the shore of the Bozburun peninsula, about 35 km from Marmaris town, and is now a neighbourhood of Marmaris. Its people have long made their living from fishing. The village takes its name from the Ottoman sultan Selim I, and its families trace their roots to Razgrad, in today's Bulgaria.
Sığliman cove, in Selimiye, is a well-known yacht anchorage, and passenger boats and yachts run across the gulf between Selimiye and Datça. A 2013 survey of sea tourism around Marmaris counted five small boatyards in the village. Restaurants line the waterfront, and it is busiest in July and August.
