The story
Troy, the city of Homer's Iliad, lies on the hill of Hisarlık near Çanakkale, where Heinrich Schliemann began digging in the 1870s. Nine cities were built one on top of another over three thousand years.
The site was inscribed by UNESCO in 1998, and a large museum opened beside it in 2018. A wooden horse, built for visitors, stands at the entrance.
