The story

Tea is the everyday drink of Türkiye, poured at breakfast, at work, in shops and whenever a guest arrives. It is brewed in a two-tier pot, the çaydanlık, and served in small tulip-shaped glasses, the ince belli bardak, so the colour can be admired.

Almost all of it is grown on the steep, rainy hills of Rize on the Black Sea coast, where tea farming began in the 1930s. Turkish people are among the heaviest tea drinkers in the world per person.
