The story
Turunç is a neighbourhood of Marmaris on a bay about 20 km south of the town, with mountains behind it. It began as a fishing village; the road from Marmaris opened in 1968, and tourism grew from then on. It became a town in 1998 and a neighbourhood again after the 2012 reorganisation.
The resort is small, about a kilometre from end to end, with restaurants and shops along the waterfront, and its beach holds a Blue Flag for clean water. The ruins of the ancient city of Amos lie about 4 km away. Turunç is also the Turkish word for the bitter orange.
