The story
Yalıkavak lies in a bay on the north-west corner of the Bodrum peninsula, about 18 km from Bodrum town. It became a municipality in 1988, when the villages of Gökçebel and Geriş were joined, and is now a neighbourhood of Bodrum.
It was once the area's main sponge-diving port. Today its marina has berths for 620 yachts, and a busy weekly market fills the centre. To the north, the Küdür peninsula is protected for its rock-cut tombs and nature, and mandarin and lemon trees grow around the bay.
