The story
Born to a Kurdish family in a village of the Çukurova, Yaşar Kemal grew up among bards and folk tales and carried their rhythm into his novels. İnce Memed, published in 1955, made him famous.
His books describe villagers, landowners, bandits and the land itself with an epic sweep, and he was long considered a candidate for the Nobel Prize.
